Pat Doyle named Head Coach of the GB Senior National Team

Pat Doyle has been named the Head Coach of the Great Britain Baseball Senior National Team. Doyle will begin work in his new role with immediate effect and will soon name his assistant coaching staff along with his 40-man roster for this summer’s European Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, July 23 – August 1.

Doyle is a well-respected international coach who, for the past 12 years, has served as Global Coordinator of the Major League Baseball Envoy Programme where he is responsible for recruiting and facilitating a team of more than 30 MLB coaches working around the world for the betterment of grassroots baseball.

GB’s Sam Wiley Earns Daktronics All-America Baseball Honors

Cal State L.A.’s Sam Wiley was one of 45 players named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Baseball Team. Wiley, who led the Golden Eagles in nearly every offensive category, was named to the third team in voting by the NCAA Division II College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Wiley most recently played with the Great Britain Senior National Team in the 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup.

Wiley was named the third-team utility player for the All-America squad after playing first base, catcher and right field for the Golden Eagles in 2010. He was earlier named to the first-team Daktronics All-West Region Baseball Team that made him eligible for All-America honors.

Chris Berset named as contender for Johnny Bench Award

Chris Berset, the starting catcher on the University of Michigan baseball team – and the GB Senior Baseball Team – has been named as one the last 16 players being considered for the 2010 Coleman Company Johnny Bench Award, delivered by Papa John’s Pizza.

The award recognizes the top NCAA Division I collegiate catcher each year.

The field will be narrowed still further on June 2, prior to NCAA Regional playoffs, and the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series, and the winner will be announced July 1.

GB Baseball seeks donations to support upcoming Euros trip

The Great Britain Senior Baseball Team is actively seeking donations – both large and small – to make possible the upcoming trip to Stuttgart, Germany for the European Championships in July.

“We’re hopeful that tools like Facebook and Twitter might help us to reach our funding targets,” said Marty Cullen, BBF National Teams Officer. “Even just £5 donations are significant.”
