The Great Britain Junior National Team faces a huge challenge when they compete at the CEB European Junior Qualifier in Attnang-Puchheim, Austria, from August 2 – 8. GB Cadets: European Qualifiers Roster
The Great Britain Cadet National Team is currently preparing for the CEB European Cadet Qualifier in Nykoping, Sweden from July 19 – 24. Great Britain will face strong opposition from the tournament hosts, Sweden, as well as Lithuania, Slovakia and Ukraine with the winners qualifying for the European Championship in 2011. Great Britain lost to Ukraine in the final of the 2008 Cadet Qualifier.
BBF sponsors “Get Behind GB Baseball” fundraiser
This Saturday and Sunday, all BBF teams are asked to “pass the cap” for the Great Britain Baseball National Teams.
The GB programme will be competing at several key competitions in July and August 2010. The GB Senior Team will look to defend their silver medal at the European Championships (Stuttgart, July 23 – Aug 1), the GB Juniors travel to Austria to the European Qualifiers (Aug 3 – 8), and the GB Cadets will compete in their own Qualifiers in Sweden (July 19 – 24).
GET BEHIND GB – PASS THE CAP
Great Britain Baseball receives no funding from the UK government. Ever since baseball was dropped as an Olympic sport two years ago, the GB teams have had to work tirelessly to raise money through fundraising, private and corporate sponsorship, and necessary contributions from individual players. No one involved with GB Baseball receives any salary or remuneration – the players and coaches donate time and money to help Britain compete on the international stage.
So, the BBF is asking managers, coaches, players and fans to Get Behind GB.
Chris Berset selected by Reds in MLB draft
Chris Berset – starting GB catcher at the 2009 Baseball World Cup – has been drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 20th round of the MLB draft. Berset is a graduating senior at the University of Michigan, and was second-team All Big Ten this past year.
He was recently shortlisted as a nominee for the prestigious Johnny Bench award, recognising the top NCAA Division I collegiate catcher each year.
Pat Doyle named Head Coach of the GB Senior National Team
Pat Doyle
Pat Doyle has been named the Head Coach of the Great Britain Baseball Senior National Team. Doyle will begin work in his new role with immediate effect and will soon name his assistant coaching staff along with his 40-man roster for this summer’s European Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, July 23 – August 1.
Doyle is a well-respected international coach who, for the past 12 years, has served as Global Coordinator of the Major League Baseball Envoy Programme where he is responsible for recruiting and facilitating a team of more than 30 MLB coaches working around the world for the betterment of grassroots baseball.
