40-man roster announced for upcoming Euros

The Great Britain National Baseball Teams have announced their rosters for the upcoming summer competitions on the continent. With only weeks to go before the teams depart to face their European rivals, players are working hard to get their bodies and minds in shape and geared up for success. For the GB Senior Team, there’s more at stake than just a regional placing; the road to the MLB World Baseball Classic may very well run through Stuttgart.

The Great Britain Senior National Team will defend its European silver medal next month in Stuttgart, Germany at the 2010 CEB European Championships from 23 July – 1 August.

It’s not just GB’s second-in-Europe ranking that hangs in the balance. Britain is also ranked 21st in the world… and are eagerly awaiting an invitation to the MLB World Baseball Classic when the quadrennial competition expands to 24 teams in 2013. If GB is able to fend off the teams in their preliminary tournament group (Spain, Sweden, Italy, Croatia, and Greece), they’ll advance to the second round and retain their claim to A Pool status.

Team GB’s final roster is expected within a matter of days, but a 40-man preliminary squad has been assembled by Head Coach Pat Doyle and General Manager Jason Greenberg. Coach Doyle will be assisted by coach Sam Dempster, player-coach Mitch Evans, and trainer Alan Dean. The players are working in various leagues around the world, including the BBF National Baseball League. They reside in the UK, central Europe, North America and Australia.
