Britain resumes World Cup play tonight against Nicaragua

Rotterdam, Netherlands, September 16

After a day off, the Great Britain baseball team gets backs to action in the second round of the Baseball World Cup with a re-match against Nicaragua in Rotterdam, Holland tonight. The Central Americans comfortably beat Britain 10-0 when the two sides met in the first round in Zagreb, Croatia, on their way to winning Group D. However, two close defeats to Venezuela and Cuba have left the Nicaraguans tied with GB at the bottom of Group F. Both countries are looking for their first win in the second round.

Britain’s pitching and defense will need to restrict the Central Americans’ bats better than it did in the first game last Friday (Sept 11), when starting pitcher Alex Smith was touched up for three home runs in the first inning. Nicaragua was strong throughout the hitting lineup and racked up a total of six home runs that day. Big-hitting Nicaraguan third baseman Jimmy Morales Gonzalez has been making waves throughout the World Cup, his haul so far totalling five home runs and 12 RBI in five games.

Tonight’s game begins at 19:00 CET (18:00 BST) and is scheduled for televised broadcast on Eurosport 2 and the Eurosport Player live streaming.
